An innovative way to address TOGAF Certification

The Industry's most widely adopted EA framework and method – TOGAF delivered accessibly in the Industry's most practical TOGAF training course

With the advent of TOGAF 9, the requirements for becoming a certified TOGAF Architect have changed. For TOGAF 8 a certified institution (such as PROMIS Solutions) offering a certified course (such as our Practical TOGAF 8) with a qualified instructor, could submit candidates, who successfully completed the course and built in assessments, for registration by the Open Group. This lead to certification of individuals as TOGAF 8 Certified Architects. The fee payable to the Open Group for certification was included in our course fees.
For TOGAF 9, it is necessary to write two examinations set by the Open Group under controlled conditions at an approved examination centre. The exams are provided by some registered Open Group training centres as well as a large number of Prometric centres worldwide. They are online examinations. The Prometric charges for these exams are as follows: 296 € for Part 1 and 320 € for Part 2.
The Part 1 exam tests the body of knowledge required for TOGAF 9 and comprises a large number of multiple choice questions. Candidates passing this can claim TOGAF Foundation accreditation (not equal to Certification). Part 2 tests the application of knowledge to case study examples (typically requiring experience as an architect as well as the body of knowledge). Passing this successfully allows candidates to register as TOGAF 9 Certified Architects. There is a registration fee (same amount as TOGAF 8 viz $100) for this.
TOGAF 8 Certified individuals can opt to write a TOGAF 8 to 9 Advanced Bridge exam (also online and via Prometric). This is similar to the TOGAF 9 Part 2 exam plus some testing of the TOGAF 9 body of knowledge.
Cost of this is 297 €. Success entitles individuals to be registered as TOGAF 9 Certified Architects. Registration fee is payable as $100 as before.
PROMIS has opted to provide an innovative approach to TOGAF certification, with several advantages to candidates. We are embedding our previous certified course (Practical TOGAF 8) within a course which prepares candidates to write TOGAF 9 exam (TOGAF 8 to 9 Advance Bridge exam).
The course thus meets the requirements for candidates to become certified directly for TOGAF 8 via successful completion of the course and embedded assessments. It also prepares candidates to take the TOGAF 8 to 9 Advanced Bridge exam (once they are formally qualified as TOGAF 8 Certified). We recommend students take the Advance Bridge exam approximately 4-6 weeks following the training programme to allow for thorough study and preparation, as well as the TOGAF 8 certification procedures.
We provide students with a comprehensive CD with all materials required to help them prepare.

Advantages to delegates of the PROMIS approach:

  1. Delegates are fairly assured of becoming at least TOGAF 8 certified
  2. Delegates only have to write one exam (Advance Bridge exam) to become TOGAF 9 certified
  3. Delegates who do the Advance Bridge exam and succeed are then dual TOGAF 8 and 9 certified
  4. Saves cost of one exam - approx 320 €

Our course fee for the combined course remains unchanged. Advance Bridge exam fees are payable directly to Prometric. Our course fee covers the TOGAF 8 Registration. TOGAF 9 Registration will require payment of $100 fee to the Open Group. We still have the most practical course with the most extensive case study for students to "get hands on experience". The new format also offers the best and most cost effective route to full TOGAF 9 certification that we are aware of.
